Two-nation vacation: Denmark and Sweden in 48 hours

Trying to fit two countries into just two days probably isn’t advisable. But, when the weather is a bit crappy, and the countries are just half an hour away by train – we couldn’t resist the urge to scratch two new countries – Denmark and Sweden – off our list.

We took a quick two-day break to Denmark at the beginning of December. Hoping to inject ourselves with a hit of Christmas to really get our jingle bells going. And despite the weather, we left a few kilos heavier and a lot more festive.

Starting off with a day adventure around Copenhagen, we took in the sights, took a canal boat ride, and grabbed some Glög (Danish mulled wine which will warm your cockles), and ate our way around Copenhagen’s best vegan places. Including Petrol for breakfast, and their awesome Chickpea pancakes (tastes better than it sounds), as well as Yellow Rose for some Hygge and falafel salad.

And despite the grey outlook and freezing scandal weather, Tivoli gardens (pictured below), which essentially is a theme park Father Christmas threw up, was bloody brilliant. We bought the unlimited ride ticket for around 30 quid, and it was definitely worth it. Strolling around the park was amazing in itself – with Christmas lights, more Glög and Christmas songs easing ourselves into the festive period – but double that up with one of the most adrenaline pumping rides going in Vertigo, which spun you around with enough force to give you a neck injury, and it was so worth it.

With another grey day ahead of us on Sunday, we took the train to Malmo in Sweden, filling our boots with more amazing vegan food at Jordi, before embracing the Hygge in a bar on the square, listening to Christmas songs before loading up on a Vegan all you can eat Chinese buffet.

Was two countries and cities in two days too much? Probably. But with the weather being poor, you’ve got to play with what’s in front of you. Sweden, we’ll be back for you. Copenhagen, we’re unsure. We probably will, providing we get unlimited back-to-back rides on Vertigo.
